3 Streetwear Brands in Tokyo You May Have Never Heard of…
By Mac
Hide and Seek
Originally established in 1995, Hide and Seek has had a bit of a resurgence in the past two decades. After 10 years pause, Hide and Seek continued operations in 2005. Drawing a heavy influence from BMX biking, Hide and Seek’s design influence comes from the moto, “Born Free”. Their design takes a contemporary touch, while mixing with traditional foundation helps them in thinking outside the box for new ideas. Checking out their 2023 Autumn and Winter Collection, as we head into the colder months, layered pieces will be the forefront of my many brands collections. Among several down jackets there are a few layered pieces that appear to go up with the likes of Supreme. Their Melton Check jacket is a personal favorite of the collection, and definitely would be interested in adding to my own collection!
Hide and Seek’s flagship store is located within Shibuya City, Tokyo, and have one other store in Kyoto. Among their standalone stores, they are sold in over 30 locations, including 3 domestically in California and Seattle!
Chaos Fishing Club
Pivoting onwards, we take a look a Chaos Fishing Club. According to Hypebeast, CFC labels themselves as a skate brand, however, their contributions to the fashion world seem to consistently fly under the radar. Much of their designs and products often pay homage to their name, either dropping fisherman jackets, whimsical shirt prints (as seen to the right), but overall they seem product quality tech goods, with a cartoonish feel to them.
They’ve also collabed with big players in the game, including BEAMs, Converse, and Crocs. Even through all of this, they still seem to fly under the radar, and I’m kind of happy they do. If you’re interested in checking out their products, check them out here, or stop by any of their 38 stockists in Japan.
Challenger Brigade
In the vibrant realm of street wear, where self-expression meets urban edge, Challenger Brigade emerges as a beacon of style. Unveiling a collection that seamlessly blends street-smart aesthetics with timeless elegance, this brand is set to redefine the way we embrace urban fashion. In 2009, professional skateboarder Satoru Taguchi drew inspiration from the “American Garage” and combined it with a unique spin to create the brand it is today. Challenger displays the passion of cars, motorcycles, skateboards and musical instruments, each contributing to the brand’s commitment to quality and creativity.
One of the brand’s strengths lies in its ability to seamlessly integrate into everyday wardrobes. Mix and match their pieces for a laid-back street style look or elevate your ensemble with a bold statement piece that will demand attention. Ready to elevate your streetwear game? Challenger is available online or you can stop by its Flagship Shop in Shibuya.
