This Japanese bag is incredibly versatile, and will last you a lifetime…

Ichizawa Shinzaburo Hanpu

…is a company based out of Kyoto, known for their handmade canvas bags. their craftsmen have been drafting with the same heavy cotton material, and sewing machines for the past 80 years to make these bags. Their products ranging small card pouches, to full-size bostons. these bags are as timeless, adaptive, and durable as they come. On their website, ISH describes their products as, “Not Fancy nor dressy, nor made for special occasions but with a certain something that calls on you to use it every day. I can attest to these words first hand. In fact, when on my first trip to Japan in 2018, my uncle took me to their flagship store in, Higashiyama, where I purchased a messenger bag for work. Since then that bag has seen the many spills, scuffs, and beatings over the past 6 years, and still remains as good as new. If you are interested in purchasing a bag, they do ship internationally, however, if you ever have a chance to make your way to Kyoto, Ichizawa Shinzaburo Hanpu is definitely on my top list of “hidden gems of Kyoto”.
